OUR MISSION
To empower academically talented, highly motivated young women of color by providing access to a public high school education—alongside:
Supportive Mentorship
Cultural Enrichment
Nurturing Home Environment
Life at the RABC House
Eight scholars in grades 9–12 live together in the RABC House under the guidance of our Resident Director and Resident Academic Director.
They attend Ridgefield High School, supported by our Board of Directors, host families, and dedicated volunteers. Together, we create a home away from home—where learning, growth, and belonging thrive.

OUR HISTORY
Since 1963, A Better Chance has been a leading force in identifying and supporting high-achieving students of color across the United States. As the oldest and only national nonprofit of its kind, it works to place scholars in distinguished public, boarding, and independent high schools and supports them during their academic journey.
For more than 60 years, the organization has stayed true to its mission of increasing the number of well-educated young people of color who can lead and contribute to society.
Founded in 1987, Ridgefield A Better Chance is one of A Better Chance’s 18 community school programs.
To date, 68 scholars have graduated from Ridgefield High School through our program, and each has gone on to pursue higher education. We are proud to be a 501(c)(3) organization.
