"Family Matters" Art Exhibit Opening Reception
Visual Arts

Two artists, one house, and a show that asks you to finish the story.
Michele Braun and Norman Bernstein are husband and wife and Pound Ridge residents, and the Family Matters exhibit gathers work that tells stories drawn from individual and family experience. Michele shows soft pastel on archival paper and oil on canvas; Norman contributes photographs in both color and black and white, taken in a variety of locations over the years. Across several mediums and varying degrees of realism and abstraction, the show invites visitors to construct their own stories by imagining the events that preceded each image and then considering what ought to happen next. Michele describes her pieces as entryways to stories that ask the viewer to join in the telling, stopping the action at the moment a head turns, hands pause mid-air, or a heron takes flight.
The family's own story. They moved to Westchester in 2003 and settled in Pound Ridge in 2020, after their daughter, the fantasy author S. Judith Bernstein, moved to Massachusetts.
Good to know. Free, 3:00pm to 5:00pm, and open to teens as well as adults. The library notes that its popularity sometimes exceeds its parking at busy times, so allow a few extra minutes.
