Adult Chess Club

No clock, no rating, and nobody asking what your opening is called.

The Mark Twain Library runs a weekly chess club for adults at every level, from people who have played for decades to people who learned the moves last month. Boards and pieces are provided, so you can turn up with nothing at all. The club is newly launched and deliberately unintimidating. Matthew Shirvell, known to his students as Coach Matt, facilitates: he has taught chess in Connecticut for over six years, competed in USCF tournaments around the country and worked as a tournament director on some of the largest events in the state. One of his students took sole first place in a USCF event with a perfect score.

Good to know. Free. Space is limited, so the library recommends registering for each session you plan to attend.
