David Sedaris is widely recognized as one of America’s foremost humor writers, celebrated for his sharp wit and keen observational skills. His distinctive voice shines through in his personal essays and short stories, making him a beloved figure in contemporary literature. Sedaris is the author of numerous New York Times bestsellers, including Barrel Fever, Holidays on Ice, Naked, Me Talk Pretty One Day, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, When You Are Engulfed in Flames, Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls, and Calypso. His compilation, The Best of Me, brings together 42 previously published works, showcasing his range and brilliance.

In addition to his essays, Sedaris penned Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary, a whimsical collection of fables illustrated by Ian Falconer, and served as the editor for Children Playing Before a Statue of Hercules: An Anthology of Outstanding Stories. His work frequently appears in The New Yorker and has been featured twice in “The Best American Essays.” His diaries, Theft By Finding: Diaries (1977-2002) and A Carnival of Snackery, Diaries (2003-2020), also became New York Times bestsellers, revealing his unique perspective through candid reflections.

Sedaris’s latest work, Happy-Go-Lucky, debuted at number one on the New York Times bestseller list, with its audio version, which he wrote and narrated, winning the 2023 Audie Award. He is also set to release his first children’s book, Pretty Ugly (TOON Books, February 27, 2024), illustrated by Ian Falconer and praised with a ‘star’ review from Kirkus.

Collaborating with his sister, Amy Sedaris, under the moniker “The Talent Family,” they have co-written several plays produced at notable venues, including La Mama and Lincoln Center. Their works, such as Stump the Host, Stitches, and One Woman Shoe (which earned an Obie Award), reflect their creative synergy and comedic flair.

Sedaris has received multiple Grammy nominations for Best Spoken Word and Best Comedy Album, with recordings such as “David Sedaris: Live for Your Listening Pleasure.” His story C.O.G.was adapted into a feature film that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2013. Since 2011, he has contributed annually to live recordings on BBC Radio 4, under the title “Meet David Sedaris.”

In 2019, he joined CBS Sunday Morning as a regular contributor, and his MasterClass on storytelling and humor was released. With over 16 million copies of his books in print, translated into 32 languages, Sedaris has received numerous accolades, including the Terry Southern Prize for Humor and the Thurber Prize for American Humor. In 2020, Me Talk Pretty One Day was recognized by the New York Public Library as one of the 125 most important books of the last 125 years.
