College Prep Day: How to Find Scholarships Without Falling for Scams

Scholarships do not have to be a mystery or a second full time job.

This session shows where the money genuinely comes from and how to go after it strategically, whether you are just starting or already buried. It covers the three main sources of funding, meaning FAFSA and government money, the universities themselves, and private scholarships. It also covers who actually receives scholarships, which is emphatically not only the perfect students, and the different types you can apply for.

The practical half deals with the scholarship scams that genuinely exist and how to spot them, where to find legitimate scholarships instead, and how to use the scholarship databases without disappearing down a rabbit hole for a weekend.

Priyanka Shingala of Let's Talk College, LLC leads the session.

Part of a bigger day. This is one of three sessions in an all day college prep event at the library. The others cover the SAT against the ACT, and maximizing your chances of acceptance as a junior. Registration is separate for each session.
