Dar Williams

This one is close to home. Dar Williams was born in Mount Kisco and raised in Chappaqua, just over the New York line, and she is coming back to the Playhouse. The New Yorker's Hendrik Hertzberg has called her "one of America's very best singer-songwriters," which is the kind of praise that usually gets a musician a bigger room and a colder one.

She has spent a career in the American folk tradition, a fixture on the festival circuit and a frequent tourmate of Mary Chapin Carpenter, Patty Griffin, Ani DiFranco, Bruce Cockburn, the Indigo Girls, Shawn Colvin, and Joan Baez. That is the company she keeps, and it tells you what kind of night this is: pop folk songwriting with the craft turned all the way up, in a theater small enough to hear every word.
