Dr. Seuss's The Cat in the Hat Live on Stage, Late Afternoon Show

Two bored children, one rainy day, and a cat who would never have passed a background check.

Dr Seuss wrote the original in 1957 using only 200 words, and the National Theatre of Britain adapted it for the stage in 2009. The Cat in the Hat lets himself into Sally and her brother's house on a wet afternoon, their outspoken and thoroughly outraged pet Fish objects at length, and the cat carries on regardless, setting out to teach everyone how to make their own fun with nothing more than imagination. Thing One and Thing Two are part of the bargain.

Nearly seventy years on it is still one of the best loved things in children's books, and the stage version leans into that rather than reinventing it.

There are two shows today. This is the 4:00 performance; the same production runs earlier at 1:00, which may suit younger children better.

Where to go. The Ridgefield Playhouse is at 80 East Ridge Road in Ridgefield.
