First Jewish Americans: Freedom & Culture in the New World

A people pushed out of Europe, South America and the Caribbean, landing somewhere that did not especially want them either.

This talk follows the first Jewish settlers to the New World, from the expulsions that set them moving to their contested arrival in New Amsterdam in 1654 and the communities that grew from it. It is as much about how a country decides who belongs as it is about any one group.

This one is online. It runs on Zoom.

Good to know. Free, an hour on Friday afternoon.
