Golden Hour Sonnets with David Sanders
Talk Series

Renaissance Italy invented it for love poems. Everyone since has used it for everything else.
The sonnet is a demanding form and a surprisingly flexible one, and this session traces what poets did with it once they stopped writing only about love: sonnets from William Shakespeare through to Robert Frost, chosen to show both the range of subject matter and how far the form itself will bend. David Sanders, Professor Emeritus of English and a South Salem resident, leads it, and the afternoon is built around discussion rather than lecture, with everyone encouraged to join in.
