The question on the table is how a community inspires the art made inside it. The answer gets glued down.
The group builds one collage together, reflecting shared experience and creative expression, and everyone also gets to make personal collages to take home. Materials are provided, but you are encouraged to bring your own: favourite magazines, newspapers, photographs, birthday cards, postcards, whatever you want in the picture. Snacks and refreshments are provided.
The session is led by Tess and Addi MacKenzie, whose lived experience, professional backgrounds in disability advocacy and long-standing commitment to community inclusion led them to create Project Social.
Who it is for. This class welcomes adults with developmental disabilities. To attend alone, participants need to be independent in a group setting and able to follow one- or two-step directions with prompting or volunteer assistance. Anyone needing more support than that is welcome to come with a caregiver, who should stay for the session.
Good to know. Registration is required and closes when the session begins. New Canaan Library does not publish a price for this program, so confirm on the library's event page before you plan around it.
Before you go. Details change. Confirm the date, time, price, ticket availability and any audience advisory directly with the venue before you travel.
