Nobody hands you a manual, and a group chat is not the same as a room.
It Takes a Village is a facilitated monthly gathering for new parents at the Mark Twain Library, covering pregnancy, the postpartum stretch and life with small children, and built as much for the connections between the parents as for the advice. Feeding, teething and sleep all come up, and so does the harder subject of looking after yourself while you do it. The premise is that supporting families through this stretch matters to the whole community, not just the household. Children of any age are welcome to come along. Jess Tyson facilitates: she founded the virtual assistant agency Don't Panic Management in 2011, opened the Georgetown Collective co-working space in Redding in 2023, and after years of employing mothers became an outspoken advocate for parental rights at work and beyond.
Good to know. Free. Registration is suggested and walk-ins are welcome. It meets on the third Friday of the month.
