The Manhattan Short Film Festival returns to the Palace for its 29th year, an eye-popping night of independent films from around the world. The festival happens simultaneously across the globe, and Danbury's film lovers join an audience of over 100,000 in more than 500 cities across six continents.

What makes it unusual is that the audience becomes the jury. At the end of the screening you vote for Best Film and Best Actor, which turns an evening at the cinema into something closer to a conversation.

Founding director Nick Mason on the venue: "The theater has become an integral part of our festival's journey."

Good to know. Tickets are $20 plus a 99 cent fee, the cheapest night on the Palace's autumn calendar.

Where to go. The Palace Danbury sits on Main Street in downtown Danbury, with restaurants either side of it and an easy run in from anywhere in lower Fairfield County.
