Moss Art Workshop for Adults

Two and a half hours making a landscape painting out of things that grew.

Moss art uses materials found in nature to build one-of-a-kind compositions, and this workshop explores them as an assemblage landscape painting. Personal expression is the point — the finished work can be abstract or realistic, whichever way you take it. All materials are provided: the instructor brings a wide range of natural material including moss, bark, vines, twigs, leaves, flowers, ferns, butterflies and bees, worked into a framed surface with hot glue and wood glue.

The instructor is Jeanne McDonagh, a digital artist and fine arts teacher recently retired after 42 years teaching art at high school and college level. She spent 32 of those at New Canaan High School teaching AP Studio Art 2D Design, Photoshop Design, Advanced Digital Media, Photography, Printmaking, Ceramics and Drawing, and she still exhibits her own work while teaching drawing and Photoshop at New Canaan's Lapham Community Center and workshops at the library.

Good to know. This session is for new students who did not take the October 2026 class. Registration is required, and the library has it opening on 15 October. New Canaan Library does not publish a price for this program, so confirm on the library's event page before you plan around it.
