Ten evenings, ten arguments, and not a foreign policy expert in the room by design.
The Mark Twain Library's World Affairs Forum is a discussion group modelled on the Foreign Policy Association's Great Decisions programme, running ten sessions on the first and third Monday of the month. The moderators are volunteers from the community who take part in the library's winter Great Decisions group rather than specialists, and that is deliberate: the job is to keep an open and respectful exchange going, not to hand down the answer. Register once and you are enrolled in all ten, with the reading circulated in advance.
The ten evenings. September 21, the pros and cons of AI. October 5, NATO and the health of alliances. October 19, the mistakes made at the end of the Cold War and their impact. November 2, the future of foreign aid. November 16, freedom of the seas. November 30, Argentina. December 7, climate change, sustainability and resilience. December 21, social media, propaganda and inoculation theory. January 4, why Denmark is the world's happiest country. January 18, technology and modern warfare.
Good to know. Free, and one registration covers the whole series. In-person attendance is encouraged for the better conversation, with a Zoom option for anyone who needs it and the link sent on the day of each meeting.
