Music at the Mansion: Steve Cohen & Friends

Three players, one drawing room, and a clarinet at the centre of all of it.

Clarinettist Steve Cohen is joined by cellist Nick Hardie and pianist Kay Kim for a programme that puts the clarinet where it sounds best. Brahms's Clarinet Trio in A minor, Op. 114, one of the late works he wrote after hearing a clarinettist good enough to bring him out of retirement. Beethoven's Trio in B-flat, Op. 11, for the same combination. Poulenc's Clarinet Sonata, which is by turns witty and suddenly grief-stricken. And more besides.

Make an afternoon of it. Wine and cheese from four o'clock, concert at half past.

Good to know. $30 general admission, $25 for over-65s and $10 for students, which is about as accessible as chamber music gets.
