Fall is when you plant for spring, which makes this the useful end of the year to be thinking about it.

This workshop at the Danbury Library is about turning a patch of yard into habitat without giving up on how it looks. You will work through assessing your site, deciding what you actually want the garden to be, choosing plants that will survive there, and keeping the whole thing healthy for pollinators and people alike. Everyone leaves with a plant palette matched to their own conditions — three flowering perennials, an ornamental grass, a shrub and a groundcover — plus a planting plan sized to the mature plants, advice on where to buy them, and instructions for preparing the ground.

Come prepared. Bring the details of your current garden: what is planted, the size, how much sun and shade it gets, and how wet the soil stays. Photos or a sketch help.
