The transfer station is one of the few town services almost every household uses, and one of the least understood lines in the budget.
New Canaan's transfer station is run by the Department of Public Works, whose budget sits inside the general town operating budget and is paid for out of local property taxes. This hour unpacks what is actually behind waste management costs and the cost-effective alternatives the Town has been building out, among them composting, the Swap Shop run by Planet New Canaan, and a long list of recycling options. Speaking are Tiger Mann, Director of Public Works, and representatives of Planet New Canaan.
NC Focus is the library's civic information series, delivered by Town officials and their municipal partners who have firsthand knowledge of the issue in front of them.
Good to know. Registration is required and closes on 17 November at 6:30pm.
