Everybody in the room gets a turn. That is the whole design, and it changes what a book club feels like.

The Next Chapter Book Club at New Canaan Library is a social, community-based group for older teens and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who enjoy reading or listening to stories. The group reads a page or two together, then talks about it — every member reads regardless of level, and nobody is asked to prepare anything in advance. It is built around friendship and enjoying the book rather than getting through it. New members are always welcome, and so are caregivers, who are encouraged to take part rather than just wait.

Good to know. The club meets every other week and is open to ages 16 and up. Registration is required.
