An outgrowth of Romanticism, the Hudson River School was the first art movement native to the United States — and a proudly nationalistic one, celebrating the American landscape while trying to break free of European schools of painting.
ArtScapades traces how national pride, the sheer scenery and the growth of travel abroad changed American art, through three of the movement's leading figures: Thomas Cole, Asher B. Durand and Frederic Edwin Church.
Robin Hoffman and Jodi Stiffelman, who founded ArtScapades, have been teaching art appreciation since 1998.
