Performance: The Aldrich x The Glimmerglass Festival, An Evening of Art & Opera

Opera in an art museum, and it costs nothing. The catch is that it has filled up.

The Aldrich and The Glimmerglass Festival have put together a single evening that runs contemporary art, opera, art song and musical theater through the same room. Rising artists from the Festival are joined by acclaimed soprano Keely Futterer and by Glimmerglass Artistic and General Director Rob Ainsley on piano, performing a program built in dialogue with the art and architecture of The Aldrich and with the current exhibition, The Aldrich Decennial: I am what is around me.

Ainsley weaves commentary through the evening, drawing out the connections between what is on the walls and what you are hearing, and asking how artists and composers working in completely different disciplines end up circling the same ideas of place, memory, identity, storytelling and creative expression. The result is an intimate performance rather than a concert hall night out.

How the evening runs. Cocktails and refreshments begin at 5:30 pm, the performance follows at 6 pm, and the evening winds up around 7:30 pm.

Who is performing. Keely Futterer on soprano and Rob Ainsley on piano, joined by artists from The Glimmerglass Festival, the summer opera and musical theater festival based in Cooperstown, New York.

It is free, and it is now marked AT CAPACITY. There was never a ticket price, but registration was required and space was limited. The Museum has since marked the evening full, so contact The Aldrich before travelling to ask whether any places have come back.
