The album takes its title from one line in the preface to Leaves of Grass, and the line is about despots.
Marc Berger and his band perform songs from a new boundary stretching album called Folk Music. The concept comes from Walt Whitman's 1855 preface: it is the attitude of the greatest poet to horrify despots and cheer up slaves. That is the frame, and the songs are built to carry it.
Berger is a nationally touring artist based out of New York. He has played Austin's South by Southwest and the Kerrville and Falcon Ridge Folk Festivals, and has opened shows for Bob Dylan among other national acts. His song The Last One was a staple of Richie Havens concerts, and Berger and the band perform it as part of this event.
