Most people who are worried about someone say nothing, because they do not know what to say. This training is about having the words ready.
New Canaan Library, in partnership with the Health Department of New Canaan, hosts QPR training — Question, Persuade, Refer. The premise is the same as CPR: an ordinary person with two hours of training can recognise a crisis and get someone to help. Participants learn to recognise the warning signs, how to offer hope, and how to connect a person to support. The session certifies you as a QPR gatekeeper, a term the Surgeon General’s National Strategy for Suicide Prevention uses for anyone positioned to notice — parents, neighbours, teachers, doctors, supervisors, coaches, caseworkers, and anyone else who is simply around people.
Good to know. Free training, two hours, and registration is required.
If you need support now. The Suicide and Crisis Lifeline can be reached by calling or texting 988.
Check before you go. New Canaan Library does not publish a price for this program. Confirm the cost and registration details on the library’s event page before you plan around it.
