The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping at the Prospector Theater

Twice the tributes. One sixteen year old from District 12. Twenty-four years before Katniss.

Francis Lawrence picks up the morning of the reaping for the 50th Hunger Games, the Second Quarter Quell, which sends twice as many children into the arena as any Games before it. Joseph Zada plays young Haymitch Abernathy, who finds an unlikely ally in Maysilee Donner, played by Mckenna Grace, and falls in with a group set on breaking the Capitol's hold from inside the arena. Ralph Fiennes plays President Snow. What Haymitch starts here is the rebellion the later films are built on.

Showtimes. Opening Thursday, November 19 at 4 and 7:15pm. Friday through Sunday at 12:45, 4 and 7:15pm. Times can change, so check the showtimes page before you go.

Good to know. Rated PG-13 for strong violence, bloody images, disturbing material, some smoking and teen drinking. The theater has not listed a runtime for it yet, so leave yourself room on either side. Tickets are $15 for adults and $13 for kids 11 and under. The theater suggests arriving 30 minutes early to grab concessions and good seats.

Every ticket does some good. The Prospector is a nonprofit theater built to employ adults with disabilities, who the theater calls Prospects. They greet you and seat you before every show. Closed caption devices and descriptive audio headsets are available at every first-run show.

Make a night of it. The Heads Up Café inside the theater pours coffee, beer and wine, and the ceiling is covered in pennies hand-placed heads up by the Prospects. Downtown Ridgefield's Main Street restaurants are a short walk away.
