The Only Living Pickpocket In New York at the Prospector Theater

An old school New York hustler. A city that went digital without him.

John Turturro plays Harry, a career pickpocket who has worked the streets of New York the same way for decades, lubricating palms with cash and living on his wits and his connections. The take has changed, though. Where there used to be billfolds and wristwatches there are now credit cards and phones, and one bad night brings cryptocurrency and a handgun into it. Writer and director Noah Segan builds a modern city out of the leftovers of an older one, and it runs an hour and 28 minutes.

Showtimes. Opening Thursday, October 29 at 7:30pm. Friday through Sunday at 1:15, 4:15 and 7:30pm. Monday at 4:30 and 7:30pm. Tuesday at 1:30, 4:30 and 7:30pm. Wednesday, November 4 is Open Caption Day and the last day of the run, with captions on screen at 1:15, 4:30 and 7:30pm. Times can change, so check the showtimes page before you go.

Heads up on the R rating. Rated R for language. Anyone under 17 needs a parent or adult 21 or older to give permission in person at the Prospector box office.

Good to know. Tickets are $15 for adults and $13 for kids 11 and under. The theater suggests arriving 30 minutes early to grab concessions and good seats.

Every ticket does some good. The Prospector is a nonprofit theater built to employ adults with disabilities, who the theater calls Prospects. They greet you and seat you before every show. Closed caption devices and descriptive audio headsets are available at every first-run show.

Make a night of it. The Heads Up Café inside the theater pours coffee, beer and wine, and the ceiling is covered in pennies hand-placed heads up by the Prospects. Downtown Ridgefield's Main Street restaurants are a short walk away.
