Voices of Reflection: Remembering 9/11

Teddy bears, textiles and photographs, gathered to hold a memory the town has not let go of.

The Museum has opened the Schmeichel Gallery for Remembering 9/11: An Exhibition of Reflection and Resilience, put together in collaboration with Voices of Resilience. It brings together artwork, textiles, sculpture, teddy bears, photographs and memorial ephemera, each piece carrying some part of the grief, compassion, courage and resilience that surfaced in the wake of that day.

Taken together the objects preserve the memories of the men, women and children who were lost, and mark the strength of the individuals, families and communities changed forever by September 11, 2001. Visitors are invited to reflect, remember and honor the lives affected by a defining moment in the country's history.

When you can see it. On view through October 17. The Museum is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm, or by appointment.

There is a talk to go with it. Mary Fetchet, Director of Voices of Resilience, speaks at the Museum on Thursday September 24 about how personal experience, memory and community response shape the way we understand the past.
