One hour of oxygen. One sperm whale. No way out but through.
Jay Gardiner, played by Austin Abrams, dives off the central California coast looking for his late father's remains and gets swallowed by a massive sperm whale. Trapped in its belly with an hour of air left, the hard-earned lessons his father taught him turn out to be the only way out. Brian Duffield directs, with Josh Brolin, Elisabeth Shue and John Ortiz. It runs an hour and 46 minutes.
Showtimes. Thursday, October 22 at 4:15 and 7pm. Friday through Tuesday at 4:15pm. Closing Wednesday, October 28, which is Open Caption Day, with one show at 1:15pm with captions on screen. Times can change, so check the showtimes page before you go.
Good to know. Rated PG-13 for peril, violent content, bloody images, some strong language and thematic content. Tickets are $15 for adults and $13 for kids 11 and under. The theater suggests arriving 30 minutes early to grab concessions and good seats.
Every ticket does some good. The Prospector is a nonprofit theater built to employ adults with disabilities, who the theater calls Prospects. They greet you and seat you before every show. Closed caption devices and descriptive audio headsets are available at every first-run show.
Make a night of it. The Heads Up Café inside the theater pours coffee, beer and wine, and the ceiling is covered in pennies hand-placed heads up by the Prospects. Downtown Ridgefield's Main Street restaurants are a short walk away.
