A flock of crows lifts a baby out of a Portland park. His sister goes in after him.
Wildwood follows Prue, played by Peyton Elizabeth Lee, into a stretch of forest on the edge of Portland, Oregon that the city has learned not to enter. Her baby brother has been carried off, and the only person who comes with her is a boy from school, voiced by Jacob Tremblay. What they walk into is not empty woodland but a place with its own rulers, its own politics and its own fragile balance, and the two of them land in the middle of a fight over who controls it. Mahershala Ali and Carey Mulligan fill out the voice cast. Travis Knight directs.
Good to know. It runs 2 hours 12 minutes and carries a PG-13 rating for strong fantasy violence and bloody images, thematic material, suicide-related material, brief partial nudity and language. The animation and the family billing make it look younger than that rating is, so it is worth reading the list before you bring small children.
Every ticket does some good. The Prospector is a nonprofit theater that exists to employ people with disabilities, and most of the crew you meet on the way in works there under that mission. Buying a seat funds the jobs.
Make a night of it. The Heads Up Cafe is in the same building, so dinner and the film are one stop.
