Witness Stones Remembrance Ceremony
Historical

Ridgefield eighth graders have spent the year recovering the lives of two women enslaved in Ridgebury, and this is the morning their names are read out loud.
Bearing Witness: A Gathering of Remembrance is the fifth year of the Witness Stones Program in Ridgefield. Grade 8 social studies students in the Ridgefield Public Schools researched Dorcas and Phillis, two women enslaved by Captain Timothy Benedict in the middle and later eighteenth century. Earlier years took on the people enslaved at the Historical Society's own Scott House: Quash, Lidia, Peter, Dinah and Ann. This year the program moves out to Ridgebury.
It is presented with the Ridgefield Public Schools, the Witness Stones Project, The Meeting House and Ridgefield Congregational Church.
Good to know. The installation ceremony itself is invitation only. Everyone else is invited to watch the program live online, free, and registering on the Society's event page is what gets you the link. Questions go to the Historical Society on 203-438-5821.
