Modern Day Troubadour at The Granite
Arts & Culture

A singer who moves between opera, bluegrass, pop and jazz without dropping a stitch.
The Art of Cabaret continues with an eclectic evening of songs from Charlie Widmer, Connecticut's State Troubadour. Widmer is an award-winning singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer whose career is defined by that rare ability to work across four genres with equal mastery, and his act You and I draws on the full range of it. The evening is as much about the role as the repertoire: he recounts how he came to be State Troubadour and what he is finding as he travels the state with it. He is joined by pianist and music director Eric Trudel.
How the evening runs. Doors at 7pm, cabaret show from 7:30 to 9pm, then an open mic from 9 to 10:30pm.
What cabaret actually is. It puts a performer, usually someone steeped in theatre repertory, in a relaxed and intimate room. The whole point is the singer's connection with the audience and the breaking of the fourth wall.
Good to know. Tickets are $45.
Where to go. The Granite sits on North Main Street in the Georgetown corner of Redding, a short run for anyone in lower Fairfield County.
