After School Clay: Wheel & Handbuilding
Kids Stuff

There is a particular satisfaction in coming home from school with something you made out of mud.
This is the autumn term of Brookfield's after-school clay class, and it covers both sides of the craft. Students learn to center and throw on the potter's wheel, and to build by hand with slab, coil and pinch methods. Roberta Ahuja runs it so that each session builds on the last, which is how confidence and technique end up growing together rather than in one burst.
What they make. Projects range from functional pieces like cups and bowls through to sculptural work. Every session leans on experimenting and problem solving, so students chase their own ideas rather than working through a set list.
Good to know. Ages 8 to 17, no prerequisite. $220 for the four-Thursday series, 4pm to 6pm, in the Clay Studio at 290 Whisconier Road. The dates are the 29th of October and the 5th, 12th and 19th of November. Prices and openings change, so check the registration page before you plan around it.
