Life on the Water
Brookfield is bordered by two of Connecticut's largest lakes: Candlewood Lake to the west and Lake Lillinonah, the state's second-largest lake, along its entire eastern side. The Brookfield Craft Center's historic 2.5-acre campus along the Still River houses seven fully equipped studios, an exhibition gallery, a retail craft gallery, and a seasonal gift shop, recognized as one of the finest professional schools for creative study in the country, with classes in everything from blacksmithing and ceramics to jewelry making and woodturning. For live performance, the Brookfield Theatre for the Arts has been bringing the community together since 1957, staging plays, musicals, comedies, and cultural events in a building dating back to 1897.

Happy Landings offers 55 acres of open fields and woods with historic barns and windmills, Lillinonah Woods is a 68-acre park connected to Lake Lillinonah with fishing, hiking, and a small beach, and the Still River Greenway is a paved trail connecting the Municipal Center to the Town Center, perfect for a peaceful morning walk or a family bike ride.

Community & Events
Every Memorial Day, the town comes together for its beloved Memorial Day Parade, marching through the Brookfield Center Historic District with emergency vehicles, classic cars, and floats from local organizations. Excellent schools, a dedicated library, and active parks and recreation programs round out a town that invests in its residents year-round.
Brookfield's story stretches back more than 300 years, though the town wasn't formally incorporated until 1788. Once a thriving mill town with gristmills and sawmills lining the Still River, its roots are still visible today in the Brookfield Center Historic District, a National Register of Historic Places listing at the junction of Routes 25 and 133, encompassing dozens of residential, civic, and religious buildings spanning architectural styles from the 18th through the 20th centuries.
In 2016, that same spirit of renewal took shape again with the creation of Brookfield Village, a revitalized downtown area inviting residents and visitors to slow down, explore, and connect.
Today, Brookfield has evolved into a welcoming four-season community that honors its past while embracing the future, anchored by its lakes, its historic center, and a downtown that continues to grow.
