AI Discussion Series

AI stopped being something you choose to adopt. Now it is in the decisions being made about you.

The next session of the library's newly launched AI discussion series looks at the promise and the pitfalls together: how AI is changing ordinary life, what we stand to gain or lose, and how anyone navigates a world that increasingly assumes it. The starting point is that AI is already embedded in services, decisions and devices people meet every day, sometimes without knowing and sometimes without consenting, from customer service chatbots and personalized recommendations through to healthcare and insurance decisions and the first wave of AI assistants and robots. The questions on the table are how we live with it, how much control we really have, and what happens when it makes a decision that affects us. Convenience sits on one side; privacy, fairness and accountability sit on the other.

Materials come first. The library sends out reading ahead of the session so everyone arrives prepared, which is what makes ninety minutes of it worth having.

This session is full. Registration has closed because the event reached capacity. It is a series rather than a one off, so it is worth watching the library's calendar for the next session.
