Beyond the Wheel: Advanced Throwing

For the potter who has stopped fighting the clay and started arguing with it.

This is Brookfield's advanced wheel class, built for experienced potters who want to push their practice rather than revisit the basics. Roberta Ahuja works students through larger-scale throwing, altered forms, lidded vessels, handles and multi-part construction, while sharpening the underlying technique of centering, pulling, shaping and controlling clay on the wheel.

Beyond technique. The class also spends time on proportion, form, surface and personal style, which is the part most potters skip. Sessions mix demonstrations with individual guidance and a good stretch of focused studio time, so students can pursue their own work while taking on new technical problems.
