Garden Club of Newtown Public Program: Our Important Pollinators
Talk Series

Pollinators are needed to reproduce ninety per cent of flowering plants and a third of food crops, which makes them less a pleasant garden detail than a load-bearing part of the system.
This program goes species by species through what each pollinator is like and what each one specifically needs. Because bee and other pollinator populations are declining in Connecticut, the practical half is what can be done in an ordinary yard and at the level of a town.
Holly Kocet is a co-founder of Protect Our Pollinators, which advocates for pollinators, beneficial insects, birds and their habitats. She is also part of the Newtown Knotweed Initiative, advising the public on Japanese knotweed and other invasive species, and a Certified Advanced Master Gardener with the University of Connecticut. Seven seasons at Earth Tones Native Plant Nursery in Woodbury shaped her understanding of how native plants and pollinators depend on one another.
Good to know. Free, in the Meeting Room, presented by the Garden Club of Newtown.
