If the stairs have become a decision rather than a staircase, this hour is for you.
ONS Wilton brings an educational session on knee arthritis and total knee replacement, led by Orthopaedic & Neurosurgery Specialists surgeon Dr. Michael Held with nurse navigator Rebecca Cyr, RN. They cover how to recognize the signs and symptoms of advanced knee arthritis, the point at which conservative treatments are no longer enough, and what to expect before, during and after surgery, including recovery, rehabilitation and the newer advances in joint replacement care.
Held is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacement, with more than thirty peer-reviewed publications and textbook chapters in the field. He performs partial and total knee replacements, hip replacements and revision surgery, with expertise in minimally invasive technique and direct anterior total hip replacement, and serves as medical director of orthopedic trauma at Greenwich Hospital. He studied at Vanderbilt, took his medical degree at Tufts, completed a combined MD/MBA in healthcare management at Brandeis, trained in orthopedic surgery at New York Presbyterian/Columbia, where he was administrative chief resident, and held a fellowship in adult hip and knee reconstruction at the Rothman Orthopedic Institute.
Cyr is a registered nurse from northern Connecticut who began her career with kidney transplant and surgical trauma patients and now serves as nurse navigator for the Total Joint Replacement Program at ONS, guiding patients from preoperative preparation through recovery. She earned her nursing degree at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield.
Good to know. This one is online, and free. Registration is required to receive the Zoom link. It is a general education session rather than individual medical advice.
