Hot & Cool Jazz: The Arthur Lipner Quartet

The Chronicle Herald put Arthur Lipner in the company of Oscar Peterson and Art Tatum, which is a sentence worth an afternoon of anybody's Sunday.

Lipner is an internationally acclaimed vibes and marimba player and composer, and he brings his quartet into the Brubeck Room for a set mixing jazz standards, his own compositions and Brazilian music. The library promises rhythms, melodies and a certain amount of audience participation, and there is a reception afterwards with CDs for sale.

Who pays for it. Hot and Cool Jazz runs on the generosity of the Estate of James (Tom) and Alice Brown, with thanks to Chris and Tish Brubeck.

Good to know. Registration is required and opens on October 22 at 10:00am, online or on 203-762-6334. A suggested donation of $10 can be made online. The new booking system takes two names at once but each has to be entered separately, using Add Another.

Getting a seat. Pre-registered guests have to arrive by 3:50pm to be guaranteed a seat. From 3:50pm the library lets in wait-listed guests, walk-ins and late arrivals until the room is full.
