Native Winter Seed Sowing with the Audubon Center
Workshop & Classes

Sow seeds outdoors in January and let the cold do the work.
A one hour program from the Bent of the River Audubon Center on native plants and winter sowing. Many native perennials need stratification, where temperature and moisture soften the seed coat and break the seed's dormancy, so winter sowing starts seeds outdoors in containers in late autumn or winter and lets the weather handle it. The session opens with a presentation on native plants and their ability to support wildlife, particularly the pollinators and plant eating insects that in turn become protein rich food for birds. Growing bird friendly plants attracts and protects the birds you already like while making a garden easier to look after.
You take one home. Attendees set up their own container during the session and leave with a mini winter sowing container and their choice of two native seed packets.
Good to know. Free, in the Meeting Room, 6:30pm to 7:30pm. Open to adults and teens. Register to reserve a spot.
