Reading The Classics With Max: Vergil's Aeneid

Two thousand years in, people are still arguing about whether Aeneas did the right thing.

Max Gabrielson leads a friendly, discussion-based reading group through Vergil's Aeneid across six fortnightly afternoons at Wilton Library. The frame is Aeneas and his destined errand to found Rome; the actual conversation tends toward love, loss, courage and what leadership costs. No Latin and no background in classical literature is assumed, only curiosity and a willingness to read. The group works from the Fagles translation. Gabrielson taught Latin and Ancient Greek at Wilton High School for twenty-six years and holds a bachelor's and a master's in classics.

The sessions. Tuesdays at 3pm on September 15, September 29, October 13, October 27, November 10 and November 24. Registering once enrols you in all six.

Good to know. Free. Registration is required and the series is currently full, so check with the library at 203-762-6334 about a place. Questions go to Andrea Sato at asato@wiltonlibrary.org. Made possible by the Literary Series in Memory of Amy Quigley.
