Senior Center Book Discussion: Astrophysics for People in a Hurry

The cosmos, for people who do not have all afternoon.

Mike Hess leads the Senior Center book group through astrophysicist and science popularizer Neil deGrasse Tyson's latest book. It brings the group full circle to another of Hess's picks, back in 2018: Carlo Rovelli's Seven Brief Lessons on Physics, whose discussion drew record attendance. Both are written for the reader who lacks the expertise, or simply the time, for a deep dive into complex science, and both serve the ideas up in portions you can actually finish. Kirkus called it "a sublime introduction to some of the most exciting ideas in astrophysics."

Where to go. Not the library. The group meets at Comstock Community Center, 180 School Road.

Good to know. The group meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month from September through May, skipping December. Call the Senior Center at 203-834-6240 for details and to register.
