Sharing the Land with Connecticut's Wildlife
Animals & Wildlife

Bears in the driveway, bats in the eaves, a hawk on the fence. Connecticut is more crowded than it looks.
Vince Lasorsa, a Master Wildlife Conservationist with the Connecticut DEEP Wildlife Division, walks through the state's wildlife from the ground up: invertebrates, amphibians and reptiles, birds and mammals, and what each of them is actually doing for the places we live. The talk covers the recreational and ecosystem value of all that, then turns to the harder part, the conflicts that come with sharing a small state, and how people and animals can get along better.
It also sets out the pressures the Division is working against, including habitat loss, invasive species and climate change, and explains its major programs, among them the Wildlife Management Areas and the state Wildlife Action Plan.
The part you can act on. The session ends on practical ground: bear-wise habits, building native backyard habitat, cutting light and plastic pollution, and how to get involved locally.
Good to know. Monday 16 November, 6:30 to 8pm in the Parloa Room. Registration is required and the room holds fifty.
