Everything important happens while somebody is having their hair done.
Robert Harling's play sets itself in a Louisiana beauty salon and keeps it there, which turns out to be exactly the right place to watch six women hold each other together through the best and worst years of their lives. It is very funny for a long time and then it is not, and the turn is what has kept it in production for four decades.
Harling wrote it out of his own family's loss, which is why the warmth and the grief sit so close together. The Playshop production is directed by CJ Nolan.
Eight performances. Friday 19, Saturday 20, Friday 26 and Saturday 27 February and Friday 5 and Saturday 6 March at 7:30pm, plus Sunday matinees on 21 and 28 February at 2pm.
Coming with a crowd? Groups of ten or more get 10 percent off the whole order, booked through the box office rather than online. ADA seating is arranged the same way.
Where to go. The Playshop is at 15 Lovers Lane in Wilton, a small house that has been putting on plays since 1937, and an easy run in from anywhere in lower Fairfield County.
