The Drowsy Chaperone

The houselights go down, a man in a chair puts on a record, and a fictitious 1928 musical comes to life around him.

The Drowsy Chaperone won five Tony Awards including Best Book and Best Original Score, and it is a loving send-up of the Golden Age musical rather than a straight example of one. Two lovers on the eve of their wedding, a bumbling best man, a desperate producer, a not-so-bright hostess, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don Juan and an intoxicated chaperone - and the man in the chair watching the whole thing and telling you what he thinks of it. New York Magazine called it the perfect Broadway musical.

Music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison, book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar. Directed by Eric and Tony Bosco-Schmidt, musical director Joy Giuseffi, choreography by Todd Santa Maria with Jessica Chesbro, produced by Sean Latasa and Matt Austin.
