Turn a Guiro: Rhythm on the Lathe
Workshop & Classes

A guiro is a hollow wooden instrument with ridges cut across it, and dragging a scraper over those ridges is where the sound comes from.
Students learn to safely turn and hollow the form on the lathe, then cut the ridges that give the instrument its rasp. It is an unusual project because the test of whether you got it right is not how it looks — it is how it sounds when you play it.
Good to know. $135 for the session, in the Wood Turning Studio at 273 Whisconier Road. Prices and openings change, so check the registration page before you plan around it.
Please check with the organizer if the event date, time or offer has changed.** LTO
