Billy Michael is a Bethel fixture, and his Wednesday night at Whitlock's is built on a simple idea: everybody knows the words, so everybody sings. Grab a seat, request a song, join in on the chorus. There is no sign-up sheet and no pressure to be any good.

It is a genuinely low-stakes way to spend a Wednesday, and it fills the room on a night that is usually quiet across the county.

It's free. No cover charge on the music, so the night costs you a drink and whatever comes out of the kitchen.

Where to go. Whitlock's sits on Greenwood Avenue in the middle of Bethel, a veteran owned Irish pub and neighborhood bar with made to order food, one of the better Irish whiskey lists around, and a standing welcome for dogs.
