Ridgefield Theater Barn

If you have not been to the Ridgefield Theater Barn lately, here is where you come in. Located on Halpin Lane in Ridgefield has been putting on shows for 62 years, and this fall and winter they have something for pretty much everyone in yo

ur house. Comedy, sing alongs, music, and a rock musical starring our own local kids. Grab your favorite snacks (yes, you can bring your own food and drinks) and settle in cabaret style at a candlelit table. Here is what is coming up.

1. Stand-Up Comedy Showcase

Friday, August 28. Doors at 7:00pm, show at 7:30pm. Tickets are $25.

This one brings together professional comedians with the crowd favorites from the Barn's own Open Mic series, all on one stage. Headliner Annie Powell has performed everywhere from Boston's Nick's Comedy Stop to the occasional casino (her words, not ours). Featured comic Calvin Cato has been named one of Time Out New York's LGBTQ Comics of Color to Watch, and special guest Peter Khoo headlines regularly at Gotham Comedy Club in the city. Emceed by Blaine Langberg, with Open Mic winners Maggie Lindrooth, Matt Orefice, Barry Schaffer, and Darla Shaw rounding out the night.

If you love this one, mark your calendar. More Showcases are planned for September 24, October 29, November 19, December 17, and into the new year.

2. Piano Barn

Friday, September 4 and Saturday, September 5, both at 8:00pm. Tickets are $35.

Picture the energy of a Manhattan piano bar, right here in Ridgefield. Hosted by Jeffery Albanesi and Pamme Jones, with accompaniment by Gina Wilson, Piano Barn is a night of live music, talented local performers, and yes, if you are feeling brave, you can get up and sing too. Nobody is going to make you. But nobody is going to stop you either.

This one comes around a few times a year, so if September does not work, there are more dates coming in October, December, and April.

3. Disaster! the Musical

Ridgefield Theater Barn This Season Disaster

September 18 through October 10. Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00pm, Sunday matinees at 5:00pm.

Pay What You Want matinee on Sunday, September 27. Tickets are $45 for adults, $40 for seniors, students, and veterans.

This is the season opener and it is pure 1970s chaos in the best way. Think a floating casino, earthquakes, tidal waves, killer rats, and a soundtrack full of disco hits you already know every word to. It is a jukebox musical spoof, and it is exactly the kind of night out that reminds you why live theater beats staying home with the remote.

4. RTBK School of Rock, Teen and Youth Musical Workshops

Classes run September 15 through November 14, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Teen workshop (grades 7-12) meets 3:30 to 5:30pm. Youth workshop (grades 4-6) meets 5:30 to 7:00pm. Performances are Friday, November 13 at 7:00pm and Saturday, November 14 at 11:00am and 2:00pm. Tuition is $970 and includes the workshop, performance tickets, and a t-shirt.

Here is the part I love most. Two age groups rehearse separately all fall, then join forces for one epic show. If you have a young performer at home who has been begging for a stage, this is where you come in. Financial aid is available, so reach out to the Barn directly if that is what is standing in the way.
