Welcome to
Harrison NY

There is a quality the best suburbs share that is surprisingly hard to find: green space that's real and accessible, neighborhoods with genuine character, and a city close enough to use but far enough to forget when you don't need it. Harrison, just 22 miles from Manhattan in the heart of Westchester County, has all of it, and wears it quietly, the way towns that have been getting it right for a long time tend to do.

A diverse and welcoming suburban town just 22 miles from Manhattan, with a blend of residential neighborhoods and green space.

More about
Harrison NY

Country Clubs & Recreation

Harrison is home to the historic Westchester Country Club, founded in 1922 and one of the most storied golf venues in the country, having hosted the U.S. Women's Amateur, the PGA Tour's Westchester Classic for four decades, and the Women's PGA Championship. Harrison Meadows Country Club, dating back to 1917 as the original Green Meadow Country Club, offers another well-loved local golf option, part of more than 1,200 acres of private club and green space woven throughout town.

Education & Community

Harrison Central School District maintains a 10 to 1 student-teacher ratio, and Harrison High School earned National Blue Ribbon School recognition from the U.S. Department of Education in 2013. Manhattanville University, located in Harrison's Purchase section, brings additional academic and cultural life to the community.

Library & Downtown

Harrison Public Library serves as a true community hub, with programs for every age and a foundation dedicated to expanding its reach, while the town's central business district and the separate West Harrison shopping area both give residents local, walkable options for dining and shopping.

Harrison's story begins in 1696, when a British colonial patent was granted to John Harrison and three others, who a year earlier had purchased land from local Native Americans above the old Westchester Path, a trail connecting Manhattan to Port Chester. The town was formally organized in 1788, and in 1975, Harrison became one of the rare municipalities in New York State to exist as a coterminous town and village at once.

The 20th century brought Harrison its most recognizable landmark. In 1919, hotel magnate John McEntee Bowman purchased land in Harrison and neighboring Rye to build his vision of a sportsman's retreat for New York's business elite: the Westchester Biltmore Hotel and Country Club. The ambitious project, complete with an eight-story hotel, three golf courses, polo grounds, and its own beach club on Manursing Island, cost more than $6 million to build, a fortune at the time. Financial troubles led Bowman to sell the club to its members in 1929, and what became Westchester Country Club went on to host PGA Tour events for more than four decades and multiple national championships.

Today, Harrison balances that country club legacy with a genuinely diverse, welcoming community, anchored by strong schools, walkable downtown areas, and easy access to both Manhattan and the rest of Westchester County.
